BENFENCING / COACH PROFILE
Ziad Elsissy offers Benjamin an unusual combination: the immediate competitive perspective of an active world-class sabre fencer and the analytical perspective of an elite coach.
Born on December 15, 1994, Elsissy represents Egypt in international men’s sabre. He became the first African and Arab men’s sabre fencer to reach World No. 1.
A two-time Olympian at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, he finished fourth individually in Paris — the highest Olympic finish in Egyptian sabre history. His international record also includes individual bronze at the 2023 World Championships and success in African and Mediterranean competition.
Elsissy compiled a 332–63 collegiate record at Wayne State University and was inducted into the Wayne State Athletics Hall of Fame. He continues to compete internationally while serving as founder and head coach of Z1 Fencing Club.
Working with an athlete who is still performing at the highest level gives Benjamin access to current competitive decision-making: timing, preparation, pressure, tactical adjustment and the realities of the international circuit. Ziad brings those experiences directly into his coaching.
